I felt the wind beneath my feet
as I chased it
this early morning.
The rhythm of hard steps against cool pavement
synchronized
with the deep pounding that escaped my chest
and became one with my mind.
Incandescent beads of sweat
gleamed in the sunrise
and ebullience
rushed through me.
My breathing thinned.
I knew I had harnessed the wind
because there was no exhaust—
only a low thumping
as I stood
in front of my feet,
breathing.
